Fall Colours 2025

September ended with some of the best weather in recent memory, but with signs of the lack of rain this summer as the Fall colours start to show themselves. The leaves are turning colour sooner and with less bright red due to a combination of summer drought stress and the lack of cool, clear nights needed for red pigment production. Summer droughts stress trees, prematurely triggering the leaf change process and preventing the development of the sugars that create vibrant red and purple hues.

The Informer: Revisited

Great articles are always a pleasure to read and re-read!

In this frequently changing section we will feature articles from past Informers, as we are busy preparing your Spring 2025 edition.

With winter behind us, spring here, and a cottage summer ahead, many of us are thinking about our Happy Place on the lake.

Here are Carly Woods’ thoughts about that in the Spring 2022 edition, along with photos of Boshkungers enjoying their own happy places:

Reminder: 10 km/h Shoreline Speed Limit

When boating in the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia, please observe the unposted speed limit of 10 km/h (6 mph ) within 30 meters (100 ft ) from shore. This limit applies on all waters within these provinces except where other limits are posted. These provisions do not apply in rivers less than 100 meters (300 ft ) in width, canals and buoyed channels nor in the case of waterskiing, where the tow boat launches and drops off skiers by heading directly away from or into the shore.

Safe Boating: Maps and Guide

When put boating on our beautiful Boshkung Lake, it’s very important to be aware of the depths, proximity to the shoreline and any hazards when boating on the lake.

Here are two maps from our website and an interactive nautical chart that may be useful.

From Cottage Life

“Across almost all of Canada, common loons—the loon species that breeds the farthest south into cottage country—are struggling to reproduce. Adult populations are stable at about 240,000 breeding pairs, but if they cannot raise enough young to replace themselves, the future of the species is at stake.”
